Journey through John 7:25-36

Good Morning Church Family – Journey Through John

Read John 7:25-36

Devo Thought: A few years ago, my family went on vacation with some great friends of ours. We went to Nashville and part of the trip turned into a karaoke night. Several members of the group mounted the stage and sang. I decided I was going to brave it and join in the fun. The song I chose that night was one of my favorites from my childhood. It was “Here I Go Again” by the band Whitesnake. I picked the song for two reasons: nostalgia and I knew most of the words. The first lyrics of the song are “I don’t where I’m going/but I sure know where I’ve been.” I thought of this song when I looked at this particular passage because it is the antithesis of Jesus. Unlike the song writer, Jesus not only knows where he has been, but he knows exactly where he is going. Jesus lived his life with a single-minded intensity and intentionality. He knew his life had purpose and direction. He lived with the will of the Father in his mind and guiding his actions at all times. So many of the people around him failed to understand his purpose and the direction of his life. They looked to him for teaching or signs and wonders, but they failed to understand all of those things were leading him to the cross and his resurrection. Because they didn’t understand where he had come from or where he was going, they didn’t understand him. He knew exactly where he had come from, and he knew exactly where he was headed. I think it right for us to be thankful that Jesus lived this way, and I think there is a challenge for us to live with the same kind of intentionality. Do you know where you are going?

Let us thank God that Jesus lived with his focus on the Father’s will and let us ask for help in living with the same focus.
