30-Day Personal Devotion Challenge Day 8

Good Morning Church Family – Day 8

Read Colossians 1:24-29

Devo Thought: Do I have any fans of mystery novels or movies? What makes a great mystery? In a novel or movie, a great mystery begins with a great hook, something that pulls the reader in. Then, there’s the crime, the event that needs resolution. The problem is that resolution is hidden, but through the course of the story, clues are given along the way. The resolution is foreshadowed (we get these hints throughout the story). What is needed is someone who pieces all the clues together to bring resolution to the crime. All the while, there are all these dead ends. Finally, all of the hints and clues are pieced together, and the puzzle is solved. Paul uses the word mystery a couple of times in this passage. What he is saying is that the resolution to the Fall (the great and terrible crime that set all of this in motion) is found in Jesus Christ, and this resolution has been revealed not only to the Jews but also to the Gentiles. All along the way, God was dropping hints and clues throughout the Old Testament (in the Law and festivals, in the Prophets and people). Meanwhile, there were times where we thought God’s plan would be this thing or that person, only to realize that this isn’t the one because there is another coming. Finally, all of these puzzle pieces would be put together by Jesus and God’s plan would be revealed to us. It is an incredible gift that God decided to reveal to his saints the “mystery” of His plan. Paul says that God had given him the mission “to make known how great…are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

Prayer – Let us thank God that He has revealed his plan of salvation and let us pray that God would reveal to us people who are living in the mystery and need Jesus to put the puzzle pieces together
