30-Day Personal Devotion Challenge Day 27

Good Morning Church Family – Day 27

Read Colossians 4:7-9

Devo Thought: For the next few readings, the Apostle Paul will mention a few specific people by name and explain why each of them have been important to him and the Colossians. There are two things I want us to focus on as we think through these verses of Scripture. First, people matter because of who they are in Christ. Second, each of them was important in the life of Paul and the life of the Kingdom. Let’s break this down. Both Tychicus and Onesimus are identified by Paul as beloved brothers and servants. They had been brought into the family of God by the person and work of Jesus Christ. So now, they are brothers of one another and of the Colossians and of Paul. They are also servants of the Lord. The calling they received was both personal and purposeful. In particular, Tychicus and Onesimus had the purpose of witnessing to the Colossians about the work of Paul and how the Kingdom work was being done. They were called to share that information to encourage and strengthen the believers, their brothers and sisters, at Colossae. So, what’s the takeaway for us? First, you matter to God and to the family of God. By faith, you are a brother or a sister. You have a family. Second, you have work to do as a member of the family. It may be that you are called to tell others about the work of God in the world. You may be called to be an encourager of the brothers and sisters. You have a calling as a family member and as a servant of the Lord. You matter, brother and sister. Never forget it.

Prayer – Let us thank God that we are a part of a family and that we have a calling, and let us ask God to reveal to us our calling.
