30-Day Personal Devotion Challenge Day 25

Good Morning Church Family – Day 25

Read Colossians 4:5

Devo Thought: In his book about Colossians, David Jeremiah tells the story of a man who hired a private investigator to look into the life of a local pastor. The man wanted to see if the life of the pastor matched what he preached. He wanted to see what his conduct was like in everyday life. This is how the story ended: “After a few weeks, the detective was able to report to the man that Dr. Houghton’s (the pastor) life matched his preaching.” That same man became a Christian because of the integrity displayed in the life of the pastor. We, of course, proclaim the Gospel with our mouths. We must share the love of Jesus with our words. But, if someone hired a private investigator to follow us around, would they find an integrity between our words and our walk. This is what Paul is talking about in this verse today. To “walk in wisdom toward outsiders” is to live a life that aligns with the Gospel we proclaim with our mouths. Peter says the same thing in 1 Peter 2:11-12: Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. Keep your conduct among the Gentiles (outsiders) honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.” Walk in wisdom so that people will want to glorify God. There must be integrity between our walk and our talk. The outside world is watching and waiting to see if we really believe the Gospel. What does your life say?

Prayer – Let us ask God to help us walk in a way that align with our talk about Jesus.
