Journey through John 3:31-36

Good Morning Church Family – Journey Through John

Read John 3:31-36

Devo Thought: Back when I was a teacher, I noticed a trend in my students with each passing year. This trend was especially noticeable at certain times of the year. In particular, I noticed it around 9/11. The trend was directly related to my age. What I noticed is that when I talked about 9/11, the last few years I taught, my students had less and less understanding of the magnitude of the event. Before you think it had something to do with the fact that the schools never really talked about it, that wasn’t the case. In fact, those students had heard about 9/11 every year throughout their academic life. The problem for them wasn’t information. The problem was experience and perspective. You see, the last few years I taught, my students were either very young when 9/11 happened or weren’t even born yet. They hadn’t lived in a world without a 9/11. They hadn’t been there when it happened. Jesus is talking about something like this in this passage. He is saying that people fail to receive his testimony because they aren’t approach Him from right vantage point; they lack a heavenly or spiritual perspective. Jesus even has to correct his own disciples at times because they see Him from the wrong perspective. He calls Peter Satan at one point because He says that his mind is set on the things of man (see Matthew 16:21-23). If we want to understand the words and work of Jesus, we must have the right perspective. We must see Him with spiritual eyes and set our minds on heavenly things.

Let us ask God to help us to have the right perspective and focus on the things of God rather than the things of man.
