Journey through John 6:32-35

Good Morning Church Family – Journey Through John

Read John 6:32-35

Devo Thought: When I was a kid, I was a terribly picky eater. I probably ate four things: Poptarts, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, chicken nuggets, and bread. Now, I would eat just about any kind of bread. I liked yeast rolls, cornbread, garlic bread, but I especially loved crescent rolls. My mom would make a batch of crescent rolls, and I definitely had at least half of the batch. The Bible says, “Man shall not live on bread alone…” I put that to the test, and I came pretty close. In our story today, the people have been talking about the time in Israel’s history when God gave them manna on a day-by-day basis. Every single day (except on the Sabbath), when they woke up, they found bread. They tell Jesus they want more of that (though they didn’t seem to always like it at the time). Jesus turns this request on its head, and he tells them that God wants to give them “true bread…bread that comes from heaven and gives life to the world.” The people, not quite understanding, ask for this bread always. They don’t quite believe that getting this true bread once will be enough. That’s when Jesus reveals himself to them. He says, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger…” You see, God has given us an insatiable hunger, so that we can find him. My attempts to fill up on bread alone were a signpost pointing me to the only one who could truly fill me. What are you hungry for? Are you chasing things that won’t satisfy? If you are, I’m here to tell you to stop searching for crescent rolls and to start seeking Jesus, the true bread.

Let us thank God for the provision of Jesus.
