Journey through John 1:4-5

Good Morning Church Family – Journey Through John

Read John 1:4-5

Devo Thought: Apparently one of the darkest place on earth is an area of New Zealand called Aoraki Mount Cook National Park. This place is so remote and dark that is rated a level 2 on the nine-level Bortle Dark-Sky Scale. For some perspective, the typical night sky in our area would probably be a level 7. In a place that is a level 2, the surroundings are barely visible on nights when the sky is clear. On nights when it is cloudy and there is no moon, it would be difficult to see anything around you. This is the kind of darkness I want you to imagine when you think about what Jesus stepped into. Darkness that obscures vision. Darkness that makes it difficult to breathe, to even imagine that there is anything else around you. When the clouds of sin and death obscure our eyes, it is impossible to see hope and believe that there is any goodness in the world around us. But, when the skies clear, the light shines through. Believe it or not, people from all over the world travel to Aoraki Mount Cook National Park because it has been deemed an International Dark Sky Reserve. People travel here because they can clearly see the night sky and all the stars, at times a huge swath of the Milky Way is visible. It’s beautiful because the light shines through the darkness. This is what Jesus did. He stepped into the darkness and brought light to us. Instead of darkness and death, we get light and life.

Let us pray and thank God that He didn’t leave us in the darkness and He sent Jesus as the Light of the World.
