Journey through John 6:22-31

Good Morning Church Family – Journey Through John

Read John 6:22-31

Devo Thought: Enough is a funny word. When is enough actually enough? If we are talking about money, well, you probably always use a little more money (although statistically speaking, the person making $75,000/year is just as happy as the person making $200,000). If we are talking about time, when will we ever have enough of that? I look at my calendar and regularly think I could use a few more free hours a week to get things done. How about food? Maybe when we think about an individual meal we can hit a limit of food. It is that moment when we finally push ourselves away from the table and say, “Enough.” But, give it a few hours or maybe a day or in the case of my sons within a few minutes of their last meal, you’ll find yourself searching for your next meal. This is where we find the people Jesus fed. They tried to make him king because he filled their bellies. He left them there, and they went in search of them. We might think this is a good thing, but Jesus makes it clear that it isn’t. They are looking for him for the wrong reason. They want the guy who can fill them up whenever they want more. More than that, despite the fact that Jesus had done an incredible sign and fed them all they wanted and more, they demanded another one from him, so that they could believe in him. I wonder if sometimes this is how we approach Jesus. Do we come to him again and again demanding a sign and saying do this or else I’m out of here? Here’s the thing. His death on the cross and his resurrection were more than enough. If he never did another thing for us, that would be all-sufficient, and yet, he gives us so much more than that. Let’s carefully exam our motives and never take for granted what Jesus has done because we find ourselves in need at times.

Let us thank God for how He has given us more than enough in Jesus.
