Journey through John 6:66-71

Good Morning Church Family – Journey Through John

Read John 6:66-71

Devo Thought: Have you ever had that moment in your life when everything seems to completely out of control and where everything is falling apart? If you haven’t yet, I want you to know that you will. I don’t say that to scare you, but to remind you that we live in a fallen and broken world where life falls apart despite our best efforts, where things spin out of control when we least expect it. When that happens, I want you to remember this passage. Contextually, Jesus’ministry has been gaining momentum for several chapter, as he has been doing more and more signs and wonders. He has been growing his following, and now thousands are with him. Then, he goes and says some things that confuse and offend those same new followers. His disciples are likely thinking to themselves, “What in the world, Jesus? Things were going so well. Why did you say that?” Then, the moment of truth comes. He turns and looks at them (the 12) and says, “Do you want to go away as well?” In that moment, they had a decision to make. How would they respond? Would they leave too, decide they had something better to do? I think this is us in those moments of chaos and confusion. “Do you want to go away as well?” I love the response of Peter because when I found myself in this place, the Father led me to this passage. Peter says, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.” This response is powerful because Peter admits that there is nowhere else to go (Jesus is the only way), that Jesus speaks the truth (Jesus is the only truth), and that Jesus is unique and special (Jesus is the only Son of God who makes a way for us). My encouragement is mark this passage for the day when your world is turned upside down and you need to decide if you will go away or stay.

Let us thank God that Jesus is there for us when the day of chaos comes.
