Journey through John 7:11-15
Good Morning Church Family – Journey Through John
Read John 7:11-15
Devo Thought: People misunderstand Jesus all the time. Lots of people say that they think Jesus was a great moral teacher, but that’s really all he was. In his book Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis writes about it this way: “That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic – on a level with a man who says he is a poached egg – or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse.” This is what people are wrestling with in the passage today, and I believe this is exactly what God intends for us to do with Jesus. We must wrestle with him. We must decide what we believe about him. Jesus even confronts his disciples at times. He asks them what people think about him, and then, more pointedly, he asks them what do they think about him. He’s either the Son of God in flesh or something and someone terrible. I think we must think about how we present Jesus to others. Do we soften him up to make him acceptable to everyone’s tastes, or do we present him as he is presented to us in Scripture? We must help people get to the point of decision. As Lewis puts it, “You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God.” What do you say about him?
Let us ask God to help us have a clear understanding of Jesus and present him clearly to others.
