30-Day Personal Devotion Challenge Day 5
Good Morning Church Family – Day 5
Read Colossians 1:13-14
Devo Thought: When I was a young driver, I remember one occasion when I found myself in need of rescue. That might be a bit of exaggeration, but at the time, it didn’t feel that way. I hadn’t been driving very long, and I had gone out to a friend’s house to meet up with friends and ride four-wheelers in the country. This wasn’t the first time I’d gone out there, and it wasn’t the first time that I had been the driver. That night, I left their house and had left myself enough time to get home to make curfew. As I started home, I found myself on a road I didn’t recognize. I drove on thinking that I would soon find a road that would get me home. Very quickly, I realized that I had missed an important turn somewhere along the way. This was in the days before cell phones and GPS. I was lost, and it was dark. I was in a place that I didn’t recognize, and I didn’t know anyone who could help me. I remember the dread I felt. I was lost. I didn’t know where to stop for help. I was going to miss curfew, and my parents had no idea where I was. I eventually found my way by stumbling onto a road I recognized. Here's the thing. My story illustrates what Paul is talking about in this passage. We were lost in deep darkness and in need of rescue. Unlike my story though, we can’t find our way out. God knew this, and He sent His Son, Jesus, to bring us out of the domain of darkness into glorious light. We aren’t left in darkness; we aren’t left in our sins. Jesus rescued us and redeemed us. Praise God!
Prayer – Let us give thanks to God for rescue and forgiveness
