30-Day Personal Devotion Challenge Day 9
Good Morning Church Family – Day 9
Read Colossians 2:1-5
Devo Thought: We just recently finished up the holiday season. While there is often much to enjoy about the holiday season (family, friends, special church gatherings, lights, so many things), there is one thing that there seems to be an endless supply of: food. From Thanksgiving to Christmas, there seems to be a never-ending stream of food (casseroles and cookies, pies and veggies). For a month, the food just keeps coming. I’m sure all of us can just picture in our minds the family Thanksgiving or Christmas meal where the food is just piled up on the kitchen counter, and we just keep going back for more. It’s like the food multiplies while we are eating at the table. And to top it off, so much of the food is rich. One of the phrases in our passage made me think about this sort of feasting. Paul says that he has been struggling (striving, stretching, battling) for the church at and around Colossae. He wants their “hearts may be encouraged…to reach all the riches of the full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery (there’s a word we heard yesterday), which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Like the Thanksgiving or Christmas feasts, we can keep going back to Christ and find out that STILL THERE’S MORE. We can keep digging into the treasure chest of Jesus, and we will continue to find there the wisdom, knowledge, and love of God. We will never go to Him and find Him empty. All the riches and treasures of God are in Christ.
Prayer – Let us give thanks that Jesus is an unending source of God’s wisdom, knowledge, and love.
