30-Day Personal Devotion Challenge Day 14
Good Morning Church Family – Day 14
Read Colossians 2:16-19
Devo Thought: Qualifications are interesting things. In order to be able to teach in public schools in the state of Mississippi, I had to get a teaching license, which required me to have finished my college degree and to have passed a two-level test. My wife, Julie, had a similar path to becoming a nurse. She had to finish her degree program at Mississippi University for Women and then pass the nursing board exam. Many of you have gone through a similar process. You had to earn the right to be able to do whatever it is you wanted to do. You had to pass a test or finish a course or read a book. You had to get qualified. What qualifies us to be loved by God? The passage we looked at yesterday gives us an answer to that question. Jesus, His life, death, and resurrection, are what qualifies us to be loved by God. We don’t have to pass the test because He passed the test for us. This is why the Apostle Paul can make statements like “let no one pass judgment on you…let no one disqualify you.” He says this because there were people trying to convince people that the way you qualify yourself to be loved by God was to eat the right kinds of food and drink the right kinds of drink. They were trying to convince people to hurt their bodies and worship angels and believe in visions in order to qualify themselves for to be loved by God. Paul emphatically says no to this. Jesus has qualified us, so no one can pass judgment on one who has been judged righteous in Jesus. No one can disqualify one for whom Jesus has already met the qualifications. You haven’t earned your salvation, you don’t keep your salvation, and you can’t lose it because you didn’t earn it for yourself. Jesus did, and he will never let you go.
Prayer – Let us thank God that we don’t have to be worried about the judgment of others who try to disqualify us from the love of God
