30-Day Personal Devotion Challenge Day 7
Good Morning Church Family – Day 7
Read Colossians 1:21-23
Devot Thought: Yesterday, we talked about the word Christology, the study of the Messiah, who He is and what it means to be the Messiah. Today, we are going to talk about another fancy Christian theology word: anthropology. Anthropology is the study of mankind. So, I’m going to take some liberty with the English language and change the word humanbeingology. What does it mean to be a human being according to the Bible? In this short text, Paul gives us a clear understanding of what the Bible says about being a human. First, it means that we are sinners who are separated from God. We are not good in and of ourselves. We are a mess. G.K. Chesterton, in responding to a newspaper article entitled “What is Wrong with the World Today?”, simply wrote back, “Dear sir, I am. Respoectfully, G.K. Chesterton.” He was acknowledging the truth about human nature. We are “hostile in mind, doing evil deeds.” This is all pretty depressing if that’s where Paul stopped, but he didn’t. He went further than that because Jesus went further for us. Jesus reconciled us (fixed our broken relationship) to the Father because He wants to present us as holy and blameless. That means instead of God seeing us as totally messed up and sinful. God now sees us as holy and blameless. How is any of this possible? It is through faith in Jesus. To be a human being means that we are completely dependent on God for our creation and our salvation, and He has shown Himself to be dependable.
Prayer – Thank God for healing our brokenness and repairing our relationship with Him
