30-Day Personal Devotion Challenge Day 22
Good Morning Church Family – Day 22
Read Colossians 3:22-4:1
Devo Thought: Last time, we talked about what a Christian household looks like at the family level. The Apostle Paul now expands this out to the level of workplace, of servant and master, of employee and boss. This may seem strange to us because we don’t associate our homes with our workplace, but in the Roman world, those lines were often blurred because there would often be servants who would work in the household. Because the Christian life is one that touches all of our relationship, the Apostle Paul explains that our faith is such that it has an impact not just on our family life but also our work life. So, how is it that we are supposed to live faithfully in the workplace? Paul admonition to us, whether we are employee or employer, is the same. In either case, he says we are to remember that the work we do is seen by God and the Lord Jesus. In other words, we have an ultimate boss. Employee, if you feel unseen and unappreciated, don’t worry. Your Father sees you. Work for Him. Boss, if you feel above the level of accountability, be careful. You have a Master, who is the Master. He sees the way you treat people, for good or bad. Remember that you are accountable to him. I think it is important that we remember that our Christian faith affects every day of the week. There is no such thing as a Sunday-only faith. How we live out our faith in our family and at work matters. Let’s make sure to live faithfully wherever we are.
Prayer – Let us pray for our workplaces.
