30-Day Personal Devotion Challenge Day 26
Good Morning Church Family – Day 26
Read Colossians 4:6
Devo Thought: Do you know what the difference between decent cooking and great cooking? Seasoning is what makes all the difference to me. If you don’t season food the right amount, it will be bland and tasteless. If you use too much seasoning or the wrong kind of seasoning, you can ruin the meal. The Apostle Paul uses seasoning to describe the way we should use our words. Think about it. Have you ever had someone use the wrong words with you? How did that make you feel? Have you ever had someone who just talked too much or just talked at you? How were those words received? Just as we must walk in wisdom, so also we must talk with graciousness. The grace of our words can bless and encourage, strengthen and empower. They can also destroy and defeat. The Proverbs tell us life and death are in the power of the tongue. James says that the tongue, while small, is a powerful and dangerous weapon. “The tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness…With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God…these things ought not be so. Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water?” Just as salt can season and enhance a meal, it can also ruin a meal and make it inedible. We must be wise and gracious with our words. Let us speak the truth with love and edify those around us with the wisdom and kindness of God.
Prayer – Let us pray that God would help us tame our tongues and that grace would season our speech.
