Salvation

Beginning a relationship with God through His Son Jesus is the most important decision a person can ever make.  Jesus saves us from our sin and connects us with God.  It is impossible to have salvation without Jesus.

Here are a few things you need to know about salvation:

1.  We are all sinners.  Romans 3:23 tells us that, "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God".  Since we have have fallen short of God's glory, we must pay the penalty.

2.  The penalty is death.  Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."  The price we owe for our sin is death.  The good news though is that, through Jesus, we may find forgiveness and life.  We are not bad people that need to be made good.  We are dead people that need to be made alive.  Jesus offers this life.  Without Him we are responsible for the punishment on our own.

3.  Jesus paid the price for our sin.  Romans 5:8 tells us that "God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."  God did not simply wipe away our sin.  Our sin still required punishment, but instead of the punishment coming to us, it went instead to Jesus on the cross.  Jesus did not expect us to become better people before we came to Him.  He met us where we were and paid our punishment for us.  Our death went to Him.  His righteousness went to us.

4.  You receive salvation when you confess and believe.  Romans 10:9 says, "If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
